Cutting Lobbies Down to Size

Large open spaces can be intimidating. When redesigning them, the key is to create smaller, more intimate areas.  Here are 8 ways that will help you achieve a more inviting lobby:

  1. Use various floor patterns.
  2. Vary the floor color and material from area to area.
  3. Use different pattern scales.
  4. Create different areas: reception, seating, meeting and display.
  5. Use varying styles of lighting to identify areas.
  6. Vary the height of your ceilings:  lower ceilings create intimacy.
  7. Vary the wall finishes, create focal points.
  8. Use accent colors in certain areas.
